Modoc county varies in elevation from 4,000 feet at the valley floor to 10,000 feet at the peak of the Warner Mountain Range. This area has four distinct seasons. In the spring, the wildflowers abound. 

The summer days average a mild 80 degrees. The fall is a sight to behold with vibrant color changes to the native plant life. Winters are cold and dry with snowfall to enjoy for those of you who enjoy snowmobiling or skiing. This area averages over 300 days of sunshine and only 17 inches of annual rainfall.

The nearest town is Alturas with a population of 3,500 and it is located only 9 miles northeast of Cal Pines. This quaint little town has all of services that you might need such as hospitals, doctors, shopping, banking, a theater, restaurants, and more.
